At Mobile Design Lab we specialize in Permaculture design for residences, businesses, schools, farms and whole communities. Permaculture is a design system that mimics patterns in nature. It goes beyond sustainability to create designs that improve the health of soil, water and air and the health of the people who live in them. We have over 13 years of experience in various settings and scales.
We are commitment to Participatory Design where we work with our clients to create systems that are suited to the opportunities and limitations of the site, and the desires, skills, time and budget of the people who live or work there. We believe that we are all designers and that together we can design solutions that are resilient, beautiful, productive and inspirational.
Option 1. Site Walk and Talk
This starts by you filling out our questionnaire to help get clear about your goals and vision. We then schedule an up to 2 hour site visit where we walk your site to reveal some of the opportunities and design suggestions. This is a walking and talking visit with no drawn designs. Cost of the service is $175 for up to two hours + mileage.
Option 2. Site Analysis and Design Concept
This is the option above plus a drawn site analysis and detailed permaculture design for your site. We will make 2 visits to your site to create a detailed map of the existing conditions of your site and come back to present our design recommendations. All designs are delivered in an easy to print PDF format. Price varies by size and complexity of the design.
Option 3. Design and Report
This includes the options above plus a detailed report of your site which can include: phased design, plant palette, maintenance plan, budget and technique spotlight. Price varies on report options.
We also offer empowering design charrettes for projects with multiple stakeholders to make sure that all voices are heard and that shared goals and ethics are established. Our charrettes range from a half day to multiple days. Contact us for details.
The word charrette may refer to any collaborative session in which a group of designers drafts a solution to a design problem. While the structure of a charrette varies, depending on the design problem and the individuals in the group, charrettes often take place in multiple sessions in which the group divides into sub-groups. Each sub-group then presents its work to the full group as material for future dialogue. Such charrettes serve as a way of quickly generating a design solution while integrating the aptitudes and interests of a diverse group of people.
If you have a home, business, farm or other space that you would like to be transformed into a beautiful, healthy and abundant place. You can get “blitzed” by the mobile design lab. Here is what to do.
Gather your community: We will work with you to gather friends, family, neighbors to help you with your blitz. You can also attend a scheduled blitz and get your house on the list.
Get Blitzed: Hang out the flags and balloons and get ready to have a good time. The mobile design lab is coming for a blitz. We start each blitz with tea and a plan for the day and end with a circle to marvel at what a group of inspired people can do in a day.
Let us know a little bit about your space and some general ideas you have. Each site is different and we can help you figure out the best way to proceed with your site and budget. We are open to having up to two hours of barter and Valley Time Trade hours.
