Backyard Carpentry: Build your own Raised Garden Bed/Bench/Hoop House

Together we will build from start to finish a multifunctional raised garden bed complete with planting! Participants will go home confident and able to tackle small backyard carpentry projects. Everyone will leave with plans to build their own raised bed with the option of a do it yourself kit.

Kits are made from sustainably harvested, rot resitent eastern white cedar locally sourced and sawn by local sawyers. Each bed should last 15-20 years. Each bed is 4’x6′ and has build in seating and the ability for season extension.

Lisa DePiano

Lisa DePiano is a certified permaculture designer, teacher and faculty member for theYestermorrow Design/Build School and the University of Massachusetts . She is co-founded of the Montview Neighborhood Farm, one of the first human powered urban-farm and edible forest garden in the country. She currently runs the Mobile Design Lab, which focuses on participatory design and education and is the lead instructor for Permaculture f.e.a.s.t

Patrick Black

Patrick has been working with youth and adults in various educational settings since 2005. From trail building in Oregon, to shelter building in Georgia, to furniture building in Vermont, Patrick brings experience and excitement about the process of making. When he’s not in the shop, Patrick can be found on his bike with a big smile, practicing Chinese Martial Arts, or throwing around the flat ball–aka frisbee.
